Campbellsville Takes Down Tigers

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Georgetown College volleyball team (2-16, 0-7 MSC) lost to Campbellsville University (16-11, 3-2 MSC) in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym on Tuesday evening.

Campbellsville defeated the Tigers in three sets, winning 25-22, 25-15, 25-20.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After dropping the opening point, the Tigers rattled off the next four and seemed to be in control in the early stages. Campbellsville chipped away and tied things at 5-5. The set tilted towards Campbellsville with the visitors down a point at 12-11. A 5-0 run separated the CU Tigers and forced a Georgetown timeout. The Tigers pulled back within three points late in the set but could not come any closer, falling 25-22.

The second set quickly favored the visitors. Campbellsville took an early 4-1 lead and did not look back from there. Campbellsville led 11-5 after their longest run of the set of three consecutive points. Two kills from Madison Farmer iced it for Campbellsville, who took the second set 25-15.

Both sides traded the advantage in the early goings of the third. Trailing 10-7, the Tigers strung together five straight points to lead 12-10, but lost their lead from there. Campbellsville countered with five points of its own and did not surrender the lead the rest of the way. Georgetown tied things at 15-15 but lost the set 25-20.

THE TEAM
Georgetown hit .095 as a squad, with CU earning a .323 mark. The Tigers had 28 kills and 27 assists. Georgetown collected two block solos with eight service aces and 35 digs.

THE PLAYERS
Giara Ferrari produced a team-high eight kills with five digs.

Reagan Kupper added five kills to go with an assist, service ace, and eight digs.

Abie Butterworth collected five kills and five digs. 

UP NEXT
The Tigers host Lindsey Wilson University (21-7, 4-2 MSC) in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym on Thursday, October 16, at 6:00 p.m. to close a six-game homestand.
