Tigers Push (RV) Lindsey Wilson to the Brink in Tight Three-Set Loss

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Georgetown College volleyball team (2-17, 0-8 MSC) lost to (RV) Lindsey Wilson University (22-7, 5-2 MSC) in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym on Thursday evening.

The Blue Raiders defeated the Tigers in three sets, winning 25-23, 25-22, 25-23.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Georgetown claimed the first point of the night and brought energy throughout the entire first set. Both sides traded points before LWU made its first move with the game tied at 14-14. The Blue Raiders won the next four points before the Tigers countered with a 5-1 run to tie things up at 19-19. After a Maria Alves kill to pull within 23-22, the Blue Raiders rattled off the final three points to win, 25-23.

After seven of the first 10 points in the second set went to LWU, the Tigers called a timeout. From there, Georgetown took the next seven points to lead 10-7 and 11 of the next 12 points to force a Blue Raiders timeout at the 14-8 mark. LWU fought back to tie things at 17-17. With the set tied at 20-20, LWU capitalized on some crucial Tiger errors to come back for the win, 25-22.

In the third, Georgetown held control of the game throughout most of the set, commanding a two or three-point lead for most of the way. In fact, a three-point swing by the hosts to lead 21-18 seemed to point things to a fourth set. However, a 5-0 run by the visitors pushed things to a 24-21 game and match point. The Tigers fended off a pair of match points, but ultimately fell, 25-23.
