No. 10 Patriots Complete Sweep of Tigers
WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Georgetown College volleyball team (2-18, 0-9 MSC) fell to #10 University of the Cumberlands (25-0, 9-0 MSC) in the UC Volleyball Gym on Tuesday evening.
The Patriots defeated the Tigers in three sets, winning 25-11, 25-12, 25-18.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Cumberlands jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead and did not look back. The Tigers' best stretch in the opener allowed them to pull within three points off an Abie Butterworth kill and a setting error off the Patriots at 9-6. From there, the Patriots strung together a 3-0 run and a 5-0 run to put things out of reach, winning 25-11.
The Tigers claimed the opening point of the second set, but the next seven went to the Patriots. Georgetown called its first timeout, trailing 10-2. Out of the break, the Tigers outscored the Patriots by two forcing Cumberlands to call for time at 13-7. Six was as close as Georgetown would get, though, as the Patriots won the last four of the frame, to win 25-12.
In the third, Georgetown held a lead for much of the early goings. The last Tigers lead of the game came at the 7-6 mark as the Patriots rattled off three straight and held on. The Tigers made it competitive late but ultimately fell, 25-18.
