Tigers Knock Off Bulldogs on Senior Day

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Georgetown College volleyball team (4-20, 0-10 MSC) knocked off Boyce College (7-16, 4-2 Mid-East) on Senior Day in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym on Tuesday night.

The Tigers defeated the Bulldogs in four sets, winning 25-20, 25-23, 23-25, 25-19.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Both sides played fairly evenly over the first 12 points. The Bulldogs made the first move of the night when they rattled off five straight to take an 11-7 lead and force a Georgetown timeout. Out of the break, the Tigers strung together their longest run of the season, winning the next eight points to lead 16-11. Despite a late Boyce push at the end of the set, the Tigers won the opener 25-20.

Georgetown dug out of an early 5-0 deficit in set two and eventually had things tied at 7-7. The set was tied again at 11-11 and then later at both 14-14 and 15-15 before Georgetown opened an 18-15 lead. Boyce once again made things interesting late, forcing another tie at 23-23, but the Tigers pulled out the second, 25-23, behind a kill from Constanca Rosas.

The third set belonged to the Bulldogs as the visitors played with the lead for most of the way. Boyce had a response to every Tiger run, and when they faced a five-point hole deep into the third, found one final way out. The Bulldogs claimed the final seven points of the third to come from behind and win, 25-23.

The fourth set brought moments of further extension along when Boyce collected an 11-7 lead midway through. The Tigers answered to tie the match at 11-11. The Tigers made their move, trailing by three, though. After a 6-1 run made it 18-16 Georgetown, Boyce called a timeout. The visitors only went on to collect three more points as a Constanca Rosas kill set up match point. Maria Alves collected the final kill of the match, on her Senior Day, to win things for the Tigers, 25-19.

Georgetown hit .095 as a squad, with BC earning a -.031 mark. The Tigers had 41 kills and 40 assists. Georgetown collected seven service aces and 69 digs.
