Tigers Drop Four Setter to Wildcats
MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Georgetown College volleyball team (4-22, 0-12 MSC) dropped a road match to Bethel University (10-15, 4-8 MSC) in Crisp Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats defeated the Tigers in four sets, winning 25-17, 25-19, 23-25, 25-17.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tigers capitalized on some early attack errors and held a 4-1 lead out of the gate. After the Wildcats tied things at 4-4, the set tilted towards Bethel with a 5-0 swin,g taking away the Georgetown two-point lead. Bethel ran away with the set behind an 8-1 run to lead 19-11. Despite a late Tiger push, the Wildcats won the opener, 25-17.
Bethel held early control of the second set, winning the first two points and leading 8-5. After opening a 17-9 advantage, the Wildcats' offense stagnated. Georgetown pulled within three at 19-16, but could not get over the hump, falling 25-19 in the end.
Georgetown took the first two points of the third before falling quickly into a 6-3 hole. The Tigers clawed their way out of it, though, and managed to tie things at 7-7. Six of the next eight points went Georgetown's way, who then led 13-9. After a Wildcat kill ended the 5-0 run, Georgetown started another. This time, seven straight points went to the Tigers, and they looked to be in control, 20-10. Bethel responded with nine straight points to bring it within one and even led 22-21 before surrendering the game, 25-23.
The fourth set started well for Georgetown, who led 5-3 before six straight Wildcat points put the set out of reach, 9-5. The Tigers pulled back within two at 11-9 but fell in the end, 25-17.
THE TEAM
Georgetown hit .067 as a squad, with BU earning a .148 mark. The Tigers had 39 kills and 36 assists. Georgetown collected six service aces and 76 digs.
THE PLAYERS
* Giara Ferrari collected a team-high nine kills with three digs and six block assists.
* Maria Alves added seven kills and three digs with six block assists.
* Faith Miller produced 15 assists and seven digs.

The Tigers prepare for next week's Mid-South Conference tournament as the seventh seed.
